They have it on mainland America. www.canstruction.org. It’s a design competition for architecture, design and engineering firms. Basically the company goes out and buys thousands of cans of food then on a set date have to come up with a themed structure in a set time period. This was the first time it had been officially held in Hawaii and my boss asked me if I would oversee the whole thing. We went into competition with 16 other design companies – most of them who have 80-100 of a staff and not the 18 that we have. I pretty much did everything from the design to the posters to the buying of the cans and spent a lot of hours at work late at night wondering if it would work. The donated cans then are given to the Local Food bank to help the homeless and poor. There was 5 prizes and then a public vote where the public donate cans to there favourite design. I opted for a giant piggy bank with the slogan “bringing home the bacan” I didn’t win in the end but was proud of my porker. We used over 3000 cans of Vienna sausage. I don’t think you get this in Europe but its bogging. It’s like tiny hotdogs but worse. It’s really popular over here to eat for breakfast or lunch, but then so is spam so that tells you something.
